You may have questions about our services and counselling, that’s completely natural. Here are some questions and answers to help you feel more comfortable before we begin. If you have any other questions or if you would like to arrange an appointment, please don’t hesitate to call or email.

  • What types of counselling do you offer?
    We provide individual, couples, and family therapy to provide support to people struggling with grief, bereavement, trauma, anxiety, stress, and life changes.

  • How do I know which counselling service is right for me?
    We assess your unique situation during an initial consultation to recommend the most appropriate type of counselling. If we don’t think we are the best people for you, we will recommend that you look for another counsellor. Throughout our sessions, we will continue to review our work together to ensure you're getting the help you're seeking.

  • Are counselling sessions confidential?
    Yes, all sessions are strictly confidential, in accordance with professional ethical standards. For more information, see Counselling Policies.

  • How long does each counselling session last?
    Typically, sessions last 50 to 60 minutes for individual counselling, 80-90 minutes for couples and families, but this can be adjusted based on individual needs.

  • What are counselling session fees?

    Fees are:

    $130 per session for an individual counselling session - 50-60 minutes.

    $200 per session for couples counselling sessions. - 80-90 minutes.

  • If we agree to extend the counselling session, there will be an additional cost. $30 per additional 15 minutes.

    Please note: I am not a Medicare provider, so sessions are privately billed.

  • Can I attend sessions online, or do I need to come in person?
    We offer both telephone and secure online counselling sessions to suit your convenience. It’s important that you have a quiet, confidential space for our sessions. If you’re in the hospital, you will need to have a quiet room where you won’t be interrupted.

  • How soon can I book an appointment?
    Appointment availability varies; we strive to accommodate new clients as soon as possible.

  • Is counselling helpful for managing grief and bereavement?
    Yes, our counselling supports individuals through the emotional process of grief and bereavement, helping develop coping strategies.

  • Do you provide support for trauma and anxiety?
    Yes, I am trained to address trauma-related issues and anxiety disorders with evidence-based techniques.

  • What can I expect during my first session?
    The first session involves discussing your concerns, history, and goals to develop a personalised counselling plan.

  • How many sessions will I need?
    The number of sessions varies depending on your needs and goals; some clients benefit from short-term counselling, others from longer-term support.

  • Is counselling confidential when working with families or couples?
    Confidentiality is maintained, there are certain circumstances that it is a legal requirement to break the counselling confidential contract. If these circucstances arise we will aim to work collaboratively with you to oobtain your consent. See the Counseling Policies section of this website, I will also be happy to answer any questions you may have regarding confidentiality.

  • What if I need urgent support outside of sessions?
    During crises, we provide guidance on immediate resources and intervention options.

What can I talk about in counselling?

Anything that’s on your mind. Common reasons people come to Horizons include:

  • Grief and bereavement

  • You or someone close to you cancer or illness diagnosis.

  • End of life—coming to terms with your or someone close to you’s terminal diagnosis.

  • Life transitions (e.g. career change, illness, retirement, relocation)

  • Relationship issues or endings

  • Anxiety, sadness, feelings of being overwhelm

  • Feeling stuck or disconnected

  • Caregiver stress or burnout

This is your space — there are no “wrong” topic

Who do you work with?

I work with:

  • Adults (18+)

  • Individuals and couples

  • LGBTQI+ and neurodivergent clients are warmly welcomed

What is your counselling approach?

I use an integrative approach that includes:

  • Person-centred counselling

  • CBT

  • Arts psychotherapy (where helpful — no art skills required)

  • NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)

  • Couples/family therapy

  • Trauma-informed, affirming care.
